Massachusetts is the best state to live in in the U.S., according to WalletHub’s 2023 Best States to Live In list. WalletHub compared all fifty states across five metrics covering affordability, economy, education and health, quality of life and safety. States were also compared across fifty one livability indicators, including affordability, housing costs, income growth, job opportunities, education rates and the quality of hospitals.

Massachusetts topped the list, coming in number one overall, as well as being number one for education. It ranked sixth in both quality of life and safety, eleventh for economy and forty forth for affordability. The Bay State was also one of the best states for income growth, ranking thirteenth. Plus, it ranked Number one for having the highest percentage of insured populations and fifth for having the lowest average weekly work hours.

Massachusetts also ranked tenth for the number of restaurants per capita. New Jersey took second place, followed by New Hampshire in the number three spot. New York and Wyoming rounded out the top five.
