Burlington has made the top ten list of best suburbs in the U.S. for city-like living by StorageCafe. The suburbs of today aren’t exactly the suburbs of the past, as they become increasingly connected and diverse when it comes to housing, business and amenities. More mixed-use developments are popping up in communities across the Bay State and the country as builders cater to both young professionals and multi-generational households in today’s post-COVID, work-from-anywhere world.

StorageCafe set out to find the right mix of amenities to support today’s modern lifestyle and identified the best suburbs in the country for city-like living. It analyzed nine hundred and twelve cities with populations of ten thousand to one hundred thousand in the county’s one hundred largest metros, looking at several factors, including housing affordability, new construction and housing diversity, demographics, business environment, shopping and dining, health, education, safety, transportation options and self-storage prices and availability (to help maximize home space). Burlington ranked tenth on the list for being relatively affordable and offering “excellent business infrastructure” with around forty nine businesses per one thousand residents, along with three huindred and fifty square feet of office space per capita and coworking spaces.

The town’s strongest points, according to StorageCafe, are its business sector, health and residential. StorageCafe also noted its walkable areas, shopping and dining. “There are many walkable areas in Burlington, such as Third Avenue, where residents can enjoy the green space and go shopping and eating,” the report noted. “Burlington Mall, one of the oldest and largest in the Boston metro area, offers numerous shopping and eating-out opportunities as well, while the town center is a great place where residents can congregate and participate in various community events.” Burlington wasn’t the only Bay State community to make the list. Eight other suburbs were ranked in the top one hundred: Newton ranked twenty eighth, Dedham thirty fith, Wakefield thirty nineth, Woburn fifty fith, Waltham fifty sixth, Brookline fifty nineth, Norwood sixty sixth and Danvers ninety third.
