More than 200 new housing units coming to East Boston and Allston: Massachusetts HomeOwnership HomeBuyers

The Boston Planning & Development Agency has approved two new development projects which when complete will bring two hundred and eight residential units to the city’s East Boston and Allston neighborhoods. Thirty two of those units will be income restricted.  355 Bennington St., East Boston. Credit: Boston Planning & Development Agency. A new development at 355 Bennington St. will include one hundred and seventy new residential units, including twenty four income restricted units in East Boston.

Built on an underutilized lot on the eastern edge of East Boston’s Day Square, it will also bring a new transitway for the future Silver Line Day Square connection and a new pedestrian/bike connection to the Mary Ellen Welch Greenway. It will also include two hundred and four spots for bicycle parking. The building will also include retail space on the ground floor.

In Allston, the approved 14 Gardner St. project will bring thirty eight new homeownership units, including eight designated as income restricted. Originally proposed as all rental units, the developer updated the proposal in response to community feedback. The building will be a mix of ten one bedroom units, twenty two bedroom units and eight three bedroom units.  Located within a quarter mile of an MBTA stop, the project will also include forty bicycle spaces and contribute ten thousand four hundred and fifty dollars to the city’s BlueBikes program and twenty five thousand dollars toward street improvements.

The BPDA also approved updates to two previously approved projects. The board voted to approve an increase in income-restricted Inclusionary Development Policy (IDP) units at the 500 Talbot Ave., Dorchester project from five to seventeen, bringing the total affordability of the project to forty three percent.  It also voted to approve reducing the units in the 30 Thorn St., Hyde Park project from forty five to forty and increasing the number of three bedroom units in the development.
