Designed by Sasaki Suffolk to Build 10 World Trade in Boston’s Seaport District: Massachusetts Homebuyers Homeowneship

BOSTON, MA— Suffolk will be responsible for managing construction of the 10 World Trade project in the Seaport District in Boston. The project, designed by Sasaki, broke ground recently. The seventeen story 10 World Trade building will house two hundred eight seven thousand square feet of lab space, two hundred fifty eight thousand square feet of office space, and two acres of sustainable landscaping, and will be the premier life sciences and office development in the city.

The 10 World Trade building, formerly known as 401 Congress Street or Parcel A2, will incorporate an innovative design marked by highly efficient and flexible floorplates with dramatic views of the Boston skyline and harbor. The life science floors of the building will capitalize on the Seaport District’s tradition of innovation with a design and program that combine collaborative and cultural spaces. The building will also employ several design features and technology to enhance sustainability and wellness that meet the needs of modern tenants.

“We are thrilled to partner with this world-class development team, creative designers and diverse partners on the sophisticated 10 World Trade life sciences and commercial development,” said Jeff Gouveia, General Manager and Executive Vice President of Suffolk Northeast. “We look forward to demonstrating our proven planning and construction approach and cutting-edge technologies on this important project for the future of our city.”

In 2018, the Massachusetts Port Authority awarded the development designation to a joint venture consisting of BGI, The Cogsville Group, Bastion Companies, and EDGE. The development team was selected based on the project’s iconic design, public realm contributions, and a comprehensive diversity and inclusion program. Suffolk was also a key member of the development team during the selection process and will be teaming with H.J. Russell & Company, one of the largest Black-owned construction services and real estate development firms in the United States. Sasaki was chosen as the architect.

“After several years of hard work, reaching the groundbreaking of 10 World Trade is a significant milestone for the Sasaki team,” said Victor Vizgaitis, Sasaki principal and chair of architecture and design. “In the design process, we prioritized the connection between public and private urban spaces while also providing a best in class lab building that will further invigorate Boston’s Seaport. Along with our project partners, we look forward to seeing our design come to life and enhance the urban fabric of the neighborhood for this and future generations.”

Suffolk is committed to ensuring its ambitious diversity hiring compliance plans will be implemented and participation goals will be met or exceeded. Suffolk strongly supports minority, women and local owned enterprises and disadvantaged businesses, and the company’s diversity hiring initiatives will be characterized by a proactive outreach program that provides equal access and opportunity for all qualified firms. Suffolk will leverage its extensive trade partner database, strong relationships with community organizations, contractual language and accurate record-keeping to meet or exceed its established compliance goals. Suffolk’s collaboration with H.J. Russell will allow the minority owned contractor to build capacity in the Greater Boston region and serve as a positive advocate and supporter of other diverse businesses in the local market.
