Boston, MA is the fourth most expensive city for renters: Massachusetts Homebuyers Homeownership

 Rents nationwide continue to grow, driven by single family rentals, and Boston is no exception. A new report from Dwellsy found February median rents nationally rose 17.5 percent from last year and were up four percent from January. Single family rentals continue to drive rent increases across the country, according to the report, which found they were up thirty five percent over the past twelve months, while apartments have shown a three percent increase. Boston rents continued to grow as well, and Bean Town had the fourth highest median rent among four hundred cities Dwellsy analyzed.

 Boston rents were  in February were up one percent from January to two thousand nine hundred and six dollars. Year over year, the median rent grew fourteen percent, which equals an extra three hundred sixty five dollars per month, according to the report. While single-family rentals had the highest growth nationwide last month, in Boston, which has one of the largest single family rental markets in the country, these rents only rose seven percent, while apartment rents rose seventeen percent.
