New condos and apartments proposed for East Boston project: Massachusetts Homebuyers Homeownerhsip
A developer is looking to bring fifty seven new residential units to East Boston. East Boston Community Development Corp. filed a letter of intent with the Boston Planning & Development Agency on Feb. 3, looking to develop two buildings to house both condominium ownership units and rental apartments. The proposed 2 Shawsheen Road project will be located on a 36,226 square foot parcel of land along Shawsheen Road and Saratoga Street.
There is currently a two story repair/service garage on the property that would be replaced with the buildings, which would be three and four stories each. The three story building would face the residential neighborhood side of the property, and the four story structure would be along the side of the property that abuts commercial development. Once complete, the project will include fifty seven mixed income, transit oriented residential units and thirty six parking spaces.
One building will house twenty two condominiums and a garage with parking for twenty two vehicles and twenty four bicycles. The second building will include thirty five rental units and twenty six bike spaces. Fourteen additional exterior parking spaces for both buildings will be available with access off Shawsheen Road. The units will include nine one-bedroom units, twenty six two-bedroom units and twenty two three-bedroom units.
The developer said they have designated eighty four percent of the units as affordable housing. The project proposal also includes green space for both residents and those in the neighborhood on what was formally an industrial lot. The property is within walking distance of the Orient Heights MBTA station, as well as several bus stops.
