Developer hopes to bring new rental development to Roslindale: Massachusetts Homebuyers Homeownership
A new apartment complex proposed for Roslindale could bring more than 100 rental units to the area.
JBBM Realty Trust’s development plan for the Residences of Walk Hill proposes a three to four story building with 106 units, 12 of which will be affordable. The project is currently under review by the Boston Planning & Development Agency. Located at the corner of Walk Hill and Canterbury streets, the plans call for constructing a 118,815 square foot building with 126 parking spaces. The total development cost is $32 million, including $7 million for land.
At a November of 2016 BPDA public meeting, area residents expressed concerns about the proposed project’s height, density and traffic burden. In response, the developer worked with the BPDA, the Boston Transportation Department and City Councilor Andrea Campbell’s office to address those concerns.
In turn, the developer agreed to reduce the size of the project from 153,650 gross square feet; reduce the number of units from 136 to 106; change the project from a four to five story building to a three to four story building; and increase the setback along Walk Hill Street from five feet to 19 feet. To finance the proposed changes, the developer proposed the project be rental units, rather than homeownership units as originally envisioned.
