Jamaica Plain, Ma Doyle’s Cafe project receives approval: Massachusetts Boston Homebuyers Homeowners Homeownership

The legendary Doyle’s Cafe will open its doors once again following the Boston Planning & Development Agency’s approval of a new development project at 3478-3484 Washington St. in Jamaica Plain. The project will also bring 29 new residential units to the area.

The mixed-use project, proposed last spring, will revive the legendary Doyle’s Cafe, which will be led by Jamaica Plain’s Brassica Kitchen and Cafe team and include an expanded storefront with a new 4,178 square-foot urban grocery market. The renovation of Doyle’s bar and restaurant will also include a new roof deck. The iconic bar closed its doors in October 2019 after being in business for nearly 140 years.

The project will bring 29 new residential units across three buildings with 23 parking spaces, 22 interior parking spots and one carport space for residences with direct access to lobbies. A new four-story residential condominium will be constructed above the market with four units per floor. On the southern corner of the site, at 60 Williams St, a new four-story residential building containing seven units will be built.

The second phase of the project calls for the construction of another building at 69 Williams St., which will house six affordable condominium units with off-street parking for six vehicles. Residents will also be able to use the 23 bike-storage spaces located inside the One Gartland Street condo development. There will also be covered public parking for both the restaurant and market within the building’s footprint.
